Mark Nepo’s life (“Fire in the Temple,” May/June) is filled
with the experience of continually “being drawn to what
we need to learn.” He does not claim that this impetus
is exclusive to his pilgrim’s path. Rather, he offers to us
examples to follow. He reminds us to notice what grabs
our attention and to follow the path of curiosity as it opens
before us. I’m perpetually inspired by Mark and his keen
observations from his ever-unfolding life. I’m grateful he so
generously shares it with us.

In “Fire in the Temple” (May/June), Mark Nepo writes,
“I keep exploring the moment in the fire when the master
challenges the student to bring all that he is to bear on the
messy tangle of living. I think this is my challenge. I think
this is a challenge for all of us.” Nepo has a way of both
slaying us with poetic beauty, while hitting us upside the
head to meet the challenges of living our most authentic
life. To have these lethal “sweet somethings” seemingly
whispered in our ears and yet grazing the edges of our soul
is at once disarming and alarming. As a writer, there can be
no greater gift than to be so deeply inspired to bring all that I
am to bear on the messy tangle of living.

“The Miraculous Universe” by Marianne Williamson
(March/April) was fantastic. I used it to teach my adult
Sunday school class this past week. I am working on a digital
workshop that uses the power of personal stories to validate
one’s success in becoming the person they were meant to be,
all the while recognizing the relationship of one’s spiritual
journey to their human journey. Her article referred to
people’s spiritual journey, which most don’t recognize. It
is exciting to read stories like that from such well-known
people as Marianne.
Unity Magazine is doing a great job. I enjoy your interviews
with people regarding their spiritual journeys. Keep up the
